How to Look Put Together When It’s Too Hot to Care

Even as a stylist, I have always been pretty low-maintenance.

I just know what works for me, what I like, what is a hard pass, and what I am actually willing to put effort into.

And this is exactly what I help my clients figure out: what works for them, what elevates their style and image, and what makes sense based on their lifestyle and the amount of effort they are willing to give.

Because style only works if it works in real life.

So when summer arrives, your wardrobe needs to be extra easy. It needs to support the kind of summer you are actually having, whether that means traveling, working, running around with kids, going to dinners, or simply trying to survive the heat without losing your mind.

By the time I am writing this post, a big heat wave is hitting France. Which means the simple idea of wearing clothes feels like a personal assault.

But I don’t know about you but I am not quite ready for the nudist beach.

So since clothes are still not optional, and life keeps going as the temperature rises, how do we look put together when it is too hot to care?

With just a few things, my friend.

First, as we established, we still need clothes.

But they need to be breathable, flowy, and ideally barely touching us. This is not the time for stiff fabrics, complicated layers, or anything that requires a pep talk in the morning.

The goal is simple: easy pieces that move, breathe, and still look intentional.

Here are a few pieces of clothing I found for myself and for clients that I love.

Once you have the right clothes for rising temperatures, the next step is making them feel elevated. And for that, we need accessories, but simple ones.

Because I don’t know about you, but when it is hot, even too much jewelry starts to feel like a lot.

For me, the pieces I can handle are usually an anklet, earrings, and a necklace. Just enough to make the outfit feel finished, but not so much that I feel like I am wearing a chandelier in 95 degree weather.

Another thing I cannot handle when it is too hot? Having my hair down.

Especially now that my hair is longer, it is just too much.

So if the hair needs to go up, the question becomes: how do we make it look intentional instead of looking like we casually built a nest on top of our head?

This is where learning one or two easy hairstyles can make such a difference. Nothing complicated, just a couple of polished options that make you feel cooler and more put together.

My go-to is the sleek slicked-back look, like millions of girls before me, but I also like an easy braid. And adding a scarf or hair accessories into your hair can make it look more intentional.

Lastly, never underestimate what elevated sandals and a good bag can do. Because at the end of the day, we still need shoes and we still need a bag, so they might as well help the outfit.

A simple summer look can feel completely different with beautiful sandals instead of basic ones, and a polished bag instead of something that looks like it gave up before you did.

And voilà!

Looking put together in the heat does not require a complicated outfit. It is really about choosing the right easy pieces, adding one or two thoughtful accessories, getting the hair out of your face, and letting your shoes and bag do some of the work.

Bisous, and stay “hot.” ;)
