Style Notes From My Favorite Cities
Traveling through different parts of the world and watching what people eat, how they interact, and how they dress is one of my favorite things.
I never really plan a full itinerary. We usually have a few ideas of what we want to see, but for the most part, we get lost, wander through different neighborhoods, and let the city unfold in front of us.
For the most part, it has always worked for us. We find small restaurants, cafés, boutiques, and bars where locals actually hang out, and that is where you start to feel the real thread of a city.
And of course, I also get to look at what women wear.
Maybe this is my Frenchness kicking in, but I immediately go into observation mode. :p
So let’s look at what women in some of my favorite cities do so well, and what can inspire us.!
Paris
The famous je ne sais quoi is not rocket science. It is actually mostly about not doing too much.
Parisian women are rarely over-prepped. Or, when they are, they make sure it still looks effortless.
An American woman going out often looks very put together: hair, makeup, nails, outfit.. everything done. A Parisian woman will usually ruffle it all up a little. Not too perfect. Not too polished. Simple, but still together.
Paris has that restrained, slightly undone elegance.

Mexico City
Mexico City is energizing.
The bars, the shopping, the architecture, the restaurants… everything feels alive. The city is vibrant, and the boutiques reflect that energy beautifully.
There is color, texture, craft, print, jewelry, and a real sense of individuality.
Mexico City style feels expressive without feeling forced. It brings color, texture, vintage vibes and personality in a way that feels very alive.

New York
New York is fast-paced, urban, high-energy, and full of attitude.
And people dress like it.
There is a practicality to New York style because the city demands it. You walk, you move, you carry your life in your bag, and your outfit has to keep up. But even when it is practical, it still has an edge. It can be sexy, feminine but also with a sharpness to it which I love. The color palette is more neutral but you can definitely see some pop of colors to bring more vitality and dimension to the outfits.

Tokyo
Tokyo fashion is like the city itself: modern, precise, avant-garde, but still layered with cultural heritage.
What I love is the range. You see minimal, architectural looks and quiet colors, but also very playful street style: bold color, exaggerated shapes, vintage pieces, schoolgirl references, anime influence, and outfits that almost feel like characters. It is a dynamic mix of oversized silhouettes, vintage layering, and avant-garde tailoring. It combines refined minimalism with subculture streetwear.
Even when it gets wild, it still feels intentional.
Tokyo reminds us that style does not always have to be elegant or restrained. It can also be experimental, detailed, fun, and a little strange in the best way. Together, we will look at the more minimalist and avant garde side of Tokyo fashion.

Of course, the goal is not to dress like you suddenly live in Paris, Mexico City, New York, or Tokyo.
The goal is to notice what each city does beautifully and borrow the pieces that feel right for you: a little Parisian restraint, a little Mexico City color, a little New York attitude, or a little Tokyo experimentation.
That is how style stays personal. Inspired, but never disguised.
Bisous!
