A Break From White Sneakers
I’m not saying white sneakers are totally over.
I’m just saying they have had a very long run.
For years, white sneakers were the answer to almost everything. Jeans? White sneakers. Dress? White sneakers. Trousers? White sneakers. And they still work, of course. But especially once fall arrives, I find myself wanting something a little richer.
A sneaker in chocolate brown, burgundy, dark green, navy or even black can completely change the feel of an outfit without making it harder to wear.
Why I Like Them for Fall
Fall clothes naturally become heavier and deeper in color.
We bring back wool, suede, leather, denim, darker trousers, coats and knits, and sometimes a bright white sneaker can suddenly feel a little disconnected from everything happening above it.
A darker or warmer sneaker tends to blend into the outfit more naturally and makes the whole look feel more seasonal.
Black with...pretty much everything.
They still give you the comfort and casual feeling of a sneaker, but they add a little more depth.
Think About Your Wardrobe First
Before buying a colorful sneaker, look at the colors you already wear the most.
If your closet is mostly camel, cream, denim and brown, a chocolate sneaker will probably be incredibly easy to style.
If you wear a lot of gray, navy, black, and white, then a burgundy or black pair may make more sense.
The goal is not to suddenly own sneakers in every possible color. You want one pair that naturally connects with the clothes you already have.
They Don't Have to Match
Your sneaker does not need to perfectly match your sweater, bag or jacket.
Think more about repeating the same general tone somewhere else in the outfit. A burgundy sneaker with a brown bag, for example, can work beautifully because both colors have that same warm richness.
It is about creating a color story rather than matching everything exactly.
If You Only Buy One Pair
Choose the color that already appears the most in your fall wardrobe.
Not the most exciting color in the store. The one you can immediately imagine wearing with five outfits you already own.

In the end, the point is not to replace your white sneakers with another pair you never wear.
It's simply to give them a little break and take them out for next Spring.
Bisous!
