Winter Fabrics, Spring Energy

I can’t wait to be in my summer outfits. And yes, if you live in San Francisco, “summer wardrobe” might still mean boots and a cashmere sweater in August…but even so, let’s bring a little spring energy into what you’re already wearing.

Spring is a transition season. That in-between moment where you’re over winter, but it’s still too early to fully dress like it’s 75 degrees. So the goal is simple: look more like spring without catching a cold.

When I think of winter wardrobe, I think of fabrics like corduroy, suede, wool, and cashmere. They’re not going anywhere just yet, so let’s give them a spring twist.

Warm sweaters, but make them lighter

Pair your cozy knits with light wash denim or a lighter skirt. Yes, you can even do linen if the day allows it. That contrast instantly brightens the outfit and makes it feel seasonal.

Finish with lighter shoes and a lighter bag (cream, tan, soft gray, or a muted color) to pull the whole spring mood together.

The suede jacket trick

Take your favorite summer dress and throw a suede jacket on top. It’s the easiest way to wear a dress earlier than you think you can.

That’s it. No complicated styling needed.

Corduroy pieces, casual spring version

Corduroy can feel heavy, so keep the top half simple: a tee-shirt + a denim jacket (or a crisp button-down if you want it a bit more polished).

Light sneakers or loafers and you’re done.

The bottom line

Mix winter fabrics with lighter colors and lighter pieces. The little “clash” of the two seasons is what makes a transition outfit look intentional - like you planned it, not like you’re in wardrobe limbo.

Bisous!
