The New Suiting: For Every Woman

Masculine. Traditional. Boxy. Boring.

These are just a few of the words we often associate with suits. And we’re not wrong, the majority of suits for women are copy and paste of male outfits. While I will say I’m a strong advocate for at least one traditional suit in every corporate woman’s wardrobe (interview, certain client meetings, etc…), there is a world to explore in terms of women’s suiting.

This is not your father’s suit. And let’s be honest, those need an update too. It’s like the only fabric they were producing came in 50 shades of grey, black, or navy…

I now want to show you three different types of suits you can choose:  the feminine/soft suit, the statement making suit, and the sexy suit – the ones you can wear for drinks and even on a date.

Feminine Soft Suits

If you think of suits as masculine and boxy, soft feminine suits are for you. There are many ways to achieve this look, let’s start out with soft and light colored suits which mellow the roughness of a suit. You can also try more delicate fabrics that drape on your body and gentle movement to your outfit: hemp, linen, and silk. Accessorize with some nude wedges and dainty jewelry to perfectly top off your soft suit look.

Statement Strong Suits

On the other hand, if suits seem boring and traditional to you then let me introduce you to bold statement suits. To make a statement, there is no better place to start than with a bold color. In a sea of grey and navy, pretty much anything will stand out, but I personally love red and mustard. If you’re feeling daring, color block with your shoes or bags. Experiment with proportions, oversized pants, pronounced waists and shoulders. Lastly, anything velvet is bound to be a head turner and spot-on for fall!

Sexy Suits

No this is not a lingerie spotlight. I want to show you how suits aren’t just for a corporate environment, you can also look sexy in a suit for drinks, dinner, and even a date. Wear your traditional black suit with a lace bralette. Try a blazer with a silky skirt, or a velvet suit with some stiletto heels. You don’t have to buy anything new, just experiment with your styling and remember – less is more!

Hopefully I’ve converted you to the cult of suits! But if you’re still looking for a little extra guidance with your professional wardrobe, I’ve got you covered. Download my free Professional Wardrobe Strategy Guide and start resetting your image with ease and confidence.

Bisous!
